Abstract

Objective: To characterize pain in professional and amateur jiu-jitsu practitioners. Methods: Blind, quantitative-qualitative, comparative, observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study, carried out with adults, male, professional and amateur jiu-jitsu practitioners. They were assessed using a questionnaire structured by the researchers, the Questionnaire for the Assessment of Musculoskeletal Pain in Practitioners of Exercise (Q-ADOM) and algometry. Results: Sample composed of 31 jiu-jitsu practitioners, (58.06%) professionals and (41.94%) amateurs. Most of them are black belts and have already suffered some injury, they presented moderate pain in lower limbs in the last 4 weeks, both at rest and during movement, with no significant difference between the groups. The upper limb stood out as the segment with the highest incidence of injuries among professional athletes (88.89%). Algometry showed higher averages for professionals, with relevance when comparing regions such as upper limb and lower limb. Pain interference was greater in sleep and self-control of professional practitioners. There is a negative correlation between two areas of algometry and body mass index, and between algometry of the thenar region and Q-ADOM. Conclusion: The pain intensity is not different between the groups, but it interferes significantly in the lives of professional practitioners in terms of sleep and self-control.
