Abstract
Objective: Identify the relation between the Hepatitis C virus and the Social Determinants of Health described in ecological studies. Methods: This is an integrative review, that included original studies indexed in the Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde, Embase, Web of Science and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online via PubMed, and Ovid database, published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish and without time limitation. Results: Six articles were selected, which generated two thematic axes: individual characteristics (age, sex, and race/ethnicity) and general socioeconomic, cultural, and environmental conditions (socioeconomic deprivation, unemployment, poverty, human development index, gross domestic product, low schooling, and housing characteristics). The presence of Social Determinants of Health indicates the existence of socioeconomic vulnerabilities that favor the Hepatitis C virus transmission. Conclusion: Ecological studies contribute to epidemiological studies development, enable the production of maps that indicate cases prevalence and diseases and infections behavior, and provide important information for planning actions to virus prevention and control.
