Abstract

Objective: To understand the perception of family caregivers in preventing pressure injuries in the elderly. Methods: Exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out from October 2020 to February 2021. The sample consisted of 50 family caregivers of elderly patients who were hospitalized in the medical clinic sector. Data collection was carried out through interviews. The material was processed using the Interface de R pourles Analyzes Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires software. Results: Of the 50 caregivers interviewed, the age group between 31 and 45 years old represented 52%, children of the elderly (54%), married (56%), completed high school (42%), did not work in the health area (46% ), income between one and three minimum wages (50%), the average time of provision of care in terms of days was 358.76 days (SD±678.6). The speeches were organized into five classes, which included aspects related to the injury, such as understanding the cause, difficulties in care, acquired experiences, care and guidance received in managing pressure injuries. Conclusion:  The results of this research made it possible to identify several gaps of caregivers in their daily lives regarding care for the elderly.
