Abstract

Objective: To examine the available evidence on telehealth interventions in the treatment of patients with chronic wounds. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out on the SciELO, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, using the following descriptors: "Chronic wounds", "ulcer", "wounds and injuries", "telemedicine", "telehealth", "remote consultation", and "mobile health". Studies published between 2018 and 2023 that made comparisons between the use of telehealth and traditional monitoring of patients with chronic wounds were included. Results: Eight articles composed the final sample of this study, with a higher frequency of randomized clinical trials (n: 03). The results indicate that telehealth is as effective as or superior to conventional treatment in managing chronic wounds, reducing treatment time, improving patient adherence, lowering complication rates, and increasing accessibility to specialized care. The safety and efficacy of telehealth in treating complex wounds in patients with comorbidities and reduced mobility was notable. Final considerations: It was found that telehealth has significant potential in the management of chronic wounds, providing effective and accessible care. However, despite the highlighted advantages, the need for additional efforts in research and development to improve its implementation was evidenced.
