Abstract
Objective: To define the importance of dietary and socioeconomic factors in the genesis and maintenance of deficiency anemia. Methods: Integrative review based on the guiding question “What is the importance of socioeconomic factors in the genesis and maintenance of deficiency anemias?”. The electronic survey of data took place in the Pubmed and LILACS databases. Results: Of the total sample, five studies were extracted from the LILACS platform and three from the Pubmed platform, comprising 50% of cross-sectional studies, 12.5% corresponding to retrospective studies, 25% to systematic review studies with meta-analysis and 12.5% to prospective studies. All studies were thoroughly analyzed for methodological quality and risk of bias. Most of the families analyzed in the studies had low income. There were no statistical differences in anemia between males and females and between residential areas. Final considerations: An association was observed between the development of anemia and socioeconomic and educational fragility. The precarious conditions of basic sanitation, low income, difficult access to health services, rural housing, low education and unemployment influence the genesis and maintenance of anemia.
