Abstract
Objective: To identify the profile of breastfeeding and what are the weaning factors in children under 1 year of age in two Basic Health Units (UBS) located in a city in the state of Santa Catarina. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative, descriptive and exploratory approach. Data collection and situational diagnosis were carried out through a semi-structured questionnaire, applied in two Basic Health Units in the municipality. Results: 28 mothers of children under one year old attended at UBS 2 were interviewed, of which 100% under one year old were still breastfed and 35% of those under 6 months old were exclusively breastfed (EBF). With regard to UBS 1, of the 36 mothers interviewed, 100% of the children were breastfed and 80.64% of the infants younger than 6 months were on EBF. Conclusion: Breastfeeding is a fundamental practice for the development of the child, as it is not limited to the act of nurturing, it involves a great and beneficial interaction between mother and child, with important repercussions for the cognitive development, nutritional and emotional state of the child.
