Abstract

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of indicators of the nursing diagnosis Risk for Frail Elderly Syndrome (NANDA-I) and their association with fear of falls. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out with 100 elderly people who attended an outpatient clinic specialized in Geriatrics in the health care network of a municipality. Data were collected through structured interviews, using the International Scale of Effectiveness of Falls validated in Brazil and the instrument with the variables of interest: characteristics of the elderly, elements of the diagnosis under analysis and fear of falling. Results: Regarding the prevalence of the indicators under analysis, the following stand out respectively: sensory deficit (92%), chronic disease (88%) and financial disadvantage (87%). There was also an association (p = 0.044) between a greater number of risk indicators for Frail Elderly Syndrome and fear of falls. Conclusion: The indicators of the diagnosis in question are prevalent in the elderly population and have a statistically significant association with the fear of falling.
