Abstract

Objective: To establish the profile for neonatal mortality in the state of Minas Gerais, between 2011 and 2021. Methods: Epidemiological, retrospective, longitudinal, and quantitative study, with data collection from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) between the years 2011 and 2021. Results: Based on the data found, the neonatal mortality rate has considerably decreased in recent years. Additionally, the highest concentration is in the early neonatal component, especially within the first 24 hours of life. Variables that may contribute to mortality in the first 27 days of life were found, including male gender, indigenous ethnicity, vaginal delivery, low birth weight, prematurity, mothers at extreme ages, and low level of education. Conclusion: Despite the limitations encountered regarding the divergence of information between the Mortality Information System (SIM) and the Live Birth Information System (SINASC), it was possible to develop a profile for neonatal deaths occurring in the state.
