Abstract
Objective: Search for evidence in the literature on Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) in order to identify the criteria used for diagnosis. Methods: The study consists of an integrative literature review based on the formulation of the following clinical question: what are the criteria used for the diagnosis of Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization? The search was conducted in the Pubmed and Lilacs databases, including articles in English, Portuguese and Spanish from the last 10 years. The search result resulted in the pre-selection of 48 articles. Results: After the search, sorting, selection and reading process, the final sample of this review consisted of 30 scientific articles. The diagnosis of MIH is usually determined by visual examination, the EAPD 2003/2009 criteria are the most usual for classification and address the clinical features of MIH and determine it as mild or severe. Still, other more recent or less usual methods were elaborated. Final considerations: The criteria used to classify MIH comprise the assessment of clinical characteristics and severity. The presence of demarcated opacities in the dental enamel guides the differential diagnosis of other defects that affect the dental enamel. HMI represents a challenge in clinical practice requiring proper management. Itself in a mild to severe way, associated with caries and hypersensitivity. The criteria according to the EAPD are the most used.
