Abstract

Objective: Establish the interrelationship between periodontal disease and the infection caused by CHIKV, as well as the immunological link and other particularities. Literature review: Through clinical findings, case reports and studies involving illnesses, it can be understood that diseases have a relationship that can range from classic changes such as motor weakness and consequent deficiency in oral hygiene to more complex issues such as changes in cells of mesenchymal origin, which proves that the CHIKV virus is capable of potentiating periodontal disease. Final considerations: It can be considered that there is a possible interrelationship between periodontal disease and the Chikungunya viral infection in such a way that the latter is capable of potentiating periodontal disease. However, the need for further studies to prove this cannot be denied.
