Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the adherence of women in Basic Health Units to perform the Papanicolaou exam. Methods: This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The worked population consisted of 84 women in the Basic Health Unit (UBS), in the Family Strategy and Health Program (ESF), in a municipality in the state of Maranhão. The collected information took place through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire implemented through the Google Forms platform duly completed by the researcher, containing 20 closed questions. The analysis of the collected data was carried out using Microsoft Excel 2019. Results: It was observed that 86% had already taken the exam at least once in their lives, while a considerable percentage of 11% had never undergone the exam, 37% revealed that they had the exam for more than 3 years and 49% for 1 to 2 years. Conclusion: Therefore, at the time of the research, it was possible to conclude that the main factors identified persist, which are purely unique and variable for each one in terms of motivation or security for carrying out the same, since the quality of life of each human being is peculiar and unique, that is, they have their own experiences, emotions, experiences, cultural baggage, conceptions and socioeconomic profiles.
