Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the existence of referred pain in the context of the sexual function of university students, as indicative of sexual dysfunction. Methods: This is a descriptive and explanatory study of a quantitative approach among university women in the Nursing course at a higher education institution in the state of Piauí. The number of enrolled students was considered (176 women), and the public instrument Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was applied. Excel software was used for data entry and subsequent analysis. Results: It was possible to notice that 14 (27.94%) women reported always or almost always pain frequency during vaginal penetration; 10 (20.59%) always or almost always feel pain after vaginal penetration; and 9 (17.65%) reported very high pain level during or after vaginal penetration. Conclusion: It was possible to comprehend the importance of understanding female sexuality within the university context and seeking alternatives that reduce the occurrence of pain in sexual intercourse.
