Abstract
Objective: To analyze the knowledge and performance of nurses in the family health strategy in a municipality in the state of Maranhão in the face of violence against the elderly. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study with a qualitative approach. The research was developed in a municipality in the state of Maranhão, with nurses from the family health strategy. Data were collected through interviews from June to August 2022, and analyzed using Bardin's content analysis technique.Results: 10 nurses participated in the study and the analysis of the material was divided into two categories (knowledge of nurses from the Family Health Strategy on the detection of types of violence and prevention/health care for elderly victims of violence and detection strategies and prevention of violence against the elderly, used by research participants). Conclusion: nurses have knowledge about the types of violence that affect the elderly. However, more training and short, medium and long-term intervention strategies are needed to promote the health of this population.
