Abstract

Objective: Investigate the effects of PCOS on the quality of life of women regarding the sexual function of those with PCOS who use oral contraceptives. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort epidemiologic study, applied in a virtual environment with 50 women with PCOS who use oral contraceptives. They were investigated for their sexual function using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Data obtained was analyzed by descriptive statistics with the aid of the. This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: Of the 102 responses obtained, only 45 had been using oral contraceptives for more than 3 months and had PCOS. From those, 20 used oral contraceptives with a concentration of ethinyl estradiol greater than or equal to 0.035mg. Women who have PCOS and use contraceptives with this concentration obtained higher FSFI scores than those who use contraceptives with lower concentrations. The relative risk of exposure to concentrations greater than 0.035mg was 0.75. Conclusion: Oral contraceptives affect the sexual function of patients in different ways and PCOS is a factor that aggravates this situation. It is suggested that further investigations be carried out on the subject studied.
