Abstract
Objective: The debate on the management of patients with peritoniostomy admitted to an intensive care unit and its implications for nursing care. Methods: This is an integrative review of the literature, using articles published in the Scielo, VHL, PUBMED and Web of Science databases, published between 2013 and 2023 in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Results: Peritoniostomy is a surgical technique with the aim of decompressing the abdomen and preventing intra-abdominal hypertension and consequently compartment syndrome. The early identification of possible post-surgical complications in the ICU by the nursing team can reduce length of stay, mortality and hospital expenses. Final considerations: Peritoniostomy aims mainly to prevent intra-abdominal hypertension. For this, methods such as the use of the Bogotá bag and the Barker technique are used. Therefore, it is necessary for nurses to improve their knowledge and training for their management in the intensive environment.
