Abstract
Objective: To analyze the scientific production about the role of nurses in the Intensive Care Unit of patients hospitalized with COVID-19, with the following specific objectives: to report the main attributions of nursing to the critical patient with COVID-19; describe the main challenges faced by the nursing team in the care of patients with COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit; identify the main complications of patients with COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit environment. Methods: This is an Integrative Review of the qualitative Literature, without temporality due to COVID-19 being a newly discovered pathology. Data analysis was performed using the Bardin method with the support of the IRAMUTEQ software. Results: 10 articles were included in the dendrogram, resulting in three classes: 1) Impact of the pandemic and the challenges faced by professional nurses; 2) Scientific knowledge added to good management in nursing generates quality care; 3) Improvement in the work routine. Final considerations: The COVID-19 pandemic brought enormous challenges to nursing teams regarding changes in care practices and readjustments in work management. Therefore, we hope that further research can increase knowledge on the subject, providing subsidies for professional nursing.
