Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the use of bedside USG as a guide for the rapid and correct positioning of the pacemaker electrode compared to the blind method. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study conducted in a single center, with two groups, the first guided by ultrasonography and the other blinded. The choice of the technique used was at the discretion of the performing professional. The sample consisted of 60 patients hospitalized from August to October 2020, 28 of whom were guided by ultrasonography and 32 were blinded. Results: In the blind group, ventricular tachycardia was the most frequent (6.3%), in a group there was 01 case of cardiac perforation and death. In the time to impaction a statistically significant difference was observed (*p = 0.0044) between the groups evaluated. In the group with ultrasound, the largest proportion of patients obtained impaction time below 1 minute (35.7%). Conclusion: The strategy of using ultrasonography decreases the rate of ventricular tachycardia’s, in addition to substantially reducing the impaction time to less than 1 minute and zeroing rates of need for transfer to hemodynamics.
