Abstract
Objective: Understand the main complications related to Type 1 Diabetes in the last 5 years. Methods: This article is an integrative review, observed in the LILACS, PubMed and SciELO databases, having as Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): type 1 diabetes mellitus and complications, covering the studies that make up the sample from the pre-established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: In this study, 22 articles were found, where diabetic ketoacidosis was clarified as an emergency complication, taking into account the pathophysiology of the disease and that there are other important complications to be studied. Final considerations: Diabetes Mellitus is considered to be an extremely important topic and a disease that must be treated from the moment it is diagnosed. Presenting several factors to be considered, from pathophysiology to complications, whether chronic or acute. Therefore, more studies are needed regarding the relationship between hyperglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis and hypoglycemia with changes in neurological, emotional and psychological deficits in children and adolescents, in addition to clarifying in more detail the pathophysiology of the disease.
