Abstract
Objective: To investigate the presence of signs and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and risk factors for its development in individuals who have been infected with COVID-19 or have had a family member or close friend who has been infected. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, carried out between September 2021 and August 2022, using an electronic form posted on social media for people over 18 years of age. The assessment was based entirely on the Brazilian version of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5). Results: A total of 119 people met the survey's inclusion criteria. Of the total, 73 per cent were female; 61 per cent were aged between 20 and 29; 32 per cent were health professionals and 22 per cent worked in a health unit. The average PCL-5 score was 21.76 points. In addition, other data such as sleep quality and family income were cross-checked with the values obtained on the PCL-5 and considered risk factors. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the pandemic has had an impact on the population's mental health, triggering various types of psychological distress, with some groups considered more vulnerable to its development.
