Abstract

Objective: Report a clinical case where an implant was diagnosed with periimplantitis and then properly treated, along with a post-extraction Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) procedure. Case Detail: Patient, male, 44 years old, non-smoker, arrived at the clinic of Implantology of the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) in 2003, complaining of pain in element 24. After clinical examination and periapical radiography, a root fracture was detected.  During the surgery, chemical decontamination of the implant surface was performed with citric acid pH 1, mechanical debridement with metal curettes and guided bone regeneration after extraction of the 25 region. After 6 months, the endosseous implant was placed in the 25 region, and a new osseointegration of the peri-implant region was observed, with a decrease in the clinical probing depth and peri-implant mucosa recession. Final Considerations: The result, in the short term, was satisfactory, with limitation of peri-implant bone loss and maintenance of health around the implant, with the patient being able to perform rehabilitation with single prostheses on the two implants.
