Abstract

Objective: To characterize the clinical-epidemiological profile and seroprevalence of patients treated at a hemodialysis reference center in Belém-PA, in January 2022. Methods: This is a cross-sectional prevalence study, with 116 patients of both sexes, of 18 to 81 years old. Data collection by surveying medical records data, the clinical-epidemiological profile and seroprevalence for viral hepatitis B and C were investigated. Results: Of the 116 patients, 60.34% were men and 32.76% belonged to the age group of 48 - 62 years old, 44.82% had hemodialysis time > 60 months. The main etiologies causing renal failure: hypertensive nephrosclerosis (23.27%) and diabetic nephropathy (18.10%). Seroprevalence: reactive anti-HBs (75.00%), non-reactive total anti-HBc (83.03%), non-reactive HBsAg (100%) and non-reactive anti-HCV (95.49%). Excluding those vaccinated, there was a significant association between natural immunization with the Hepatitis B virus and hemodialysis time greater than 60 months. Conclusion: A higher prevalence of reactive anti-HBs, non-reactive total anti-HBc and non-reactive HBsAg was observed. As for Hepatitis C, there is a higher frequency of nonreactive anti-HCV. Furthermore, it will be necessary to progress the study with molecular biology tests to better assess the prevalence of Hepatitis B and C infection.
