Abstract

Objective: Analyze the characteristics of Cardiogenic Shock (CC). Bibliographic review: CC is caused by severely compromised myocardial performance resulting in decreased cardiac output, alvo-organ hypoperfusion, and hypoxia. Clinically, it appears as hypotension refractory to volume resuscitation with features of organ hypoperfusion that requires pharmacological or mechanical intervention. The most common etiology of CC is acute myocardial ischemia, but other etiologies include end-stage cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, cardiac tamponade, severe valvular heart disease and arrhythmias. Mortality due to cardiogenic shock remains high, ranging from 40 to 67% among the most severe cases. Final considerations: Cardiogenic shock is a serious condition and potentially absent in that there is failure of the myocardium that becomes incapable of suppressing metabolic needs, leading to multiple organ dysfunction. Its management is successful due to recognition with the rapid performance of echocardiography and measurement of markers such as lactate, in addition to the control of hyperthermia, sedation, correction of disturbances and better heart pump with the use of inotropic drugs, vasopressors and vasodilators.
