Abstract

Objective: To assess the prevalence of burnout among doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a integrative review of the literature, carried out through research in electronic databases: PubMed and SciELO, selecting 23 relevant studies published between 2020 and 2023. Results: The most used survey to measure the presence of burnout in doctors was the Maslash Burnout Inventory (MBI). The prevalence of Burnout Syndrome ranged from 21.55% to 40.1% considering this survey. High rates of burnout in doctors during the pandemic were attributed to factors such as: disability and personal protective equipment, female sex, shorter professional experience, constant exposure to illness and suffering, excessive workload, long and night shifts, lack of organizational support. Final considerations: The implementation of preventive measures and effective interventions are essential to reduce the risk of burnout and promote the health and well-being of these professionals. Future studies on burnout, other than its definition, assessment tools and comparative studies that evaluate interventions in different organizational contexts, will help in the development of efficient intervention programs that allow preventing and mitigating the emergence of burnout in doctors.
