Abstract
Objective: To analyze the incidence profile and clinicopathological characteristics of patients affected by mouth cancer in a Reference Center in Agreste Pernambucano. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, retrospective study, characterized by the analysis and quantification of mouth cancer cases between 2010 and 2020. Results: In 10 years, 9,345 patients were treated. Of these, 349 (38.43%) patients were diagnosed with oral cancer. Oral cancer was more common in men (67.6%), married (46.7%), aged between 60 and 79 (43.8%), with a first degree (35.2%) and brown (49.6%). As for the clinicopathological characteristics, the most affected anatomical location was the tongue (49.9%), followed by the floor (15.2%). The most prevalent therapeutic modality was radiotherapy (43.6%), followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy (30.9%). The occurrence of lymphocytic and distant metastasis was recorded in 35.0% and 5.4%, respectively. The percentage of recurrence and death was 9.5% and 31.2%, respectively. Conclusion: Knowledge of the incidence profile and the social factors involved in oral cavity carcinogenesis is essential in order to develop health policies aimed at preventing and controlling this disease.
