Abstract

Objective: To understand the importance of playing during the treatment of hospitalized children. Bibliographic review: During childhood, playful practice assumes an extremely important role, given that, through it, children unconsciously develop their creativity and expression of feelings. The hospitalization of a child brings with it emotional impacts and significant changes in their life, since they are deprived of their usual routines. The act of playing can be configured as a valuable tool in the process of mitigating negative feelings that may emerge, such as anxiety and fear. Final considerations: Playing plays a fundamental role with regard to the child's ability to move between the real and the imaginary world, which can be decisive in coping with the changes generated during hospitalization. It is possible to state that the game can work as a mechanism to reduce the negative feelings and fears that often accompany hospitalization, allowing the patient to express their feelings in a softer and more positive way. In view of this, the need, both from a scientific and social point of view, to value the ludic dimension in the treatment of hospitalized children becomes evident.
