Abstract

Objective: This study explored the relationship between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and the Zika Virus with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) through an integrative review. Methods: The research, conducted on PubMed, resulted in 58 articles, of which 12 were used as data sources. Results: Findings revealed a significant association between viral infections by EBV and Zika virus and the development of GBS, although there were divergences in the prevalence of GBS associated with these infections. Literature indicated that approximately 50% to 70% of GBS cases were linked to a recent EBV infection. The prevalence of Zika virus infection in GBS cases was considerably higher than expected, varying significantly among studies. Final considerations: There is an intimate relationship between the development of GBS and prior infections with EBV and Zika virus. However, the divergence in the prevalence of Guillain-Barré cases associated with these viruses emphasizes the need for further research to clarify estimates and better understand the impact of these infections, especially in tropical regions with a high incidence of arboviruses.
