Abstract

Objective: To report the experience of a food and nutrition education (EAN) action, aimed at adults and the elderly, about the degrees of food processing and the health consequences of excessive consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods. Experience report: An EAN action was carried out with a group of adults and elderly people. After the action, dynamics were performed with balloons containing questions about the topic addressed. For the development of the action, visual resources were used, with slides and a model, containing 15 foods with different degrees of processing, being in natura and/or minimally processed, processed and ultra-processed. After the action, an explanatory folder was delivered containing golden rules and 10 steps for proper and healthy eating. Final considerations: EAN action carried out with this group promoted integration, aroused interest, deepened theoretical understanding about the degree of food processing and the consequences of excessive consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods, enabling the improvement of health status and quality of life of the participants.
