Abstract

Objective: To analyze the impact of the use of continuous glucose monitoring devices on glycemic control and quality of life in people with type 2 diabetes. Methods: An integrative review was performed using the Pubmed database platform in order to locate relevant sources. The search was performed using the descriptors "Blood Glucose Self-Monitoring", "Continuous Glucose Monitoring", "Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2" and "Diabetes Mellitus, Type 1", in association with the Boolean operators "AND" and "OR" and "NOT", to search for articles, resulting in 853 initial articles. Within these numbers, due to inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 23 were selected. Results: The studies point to a close relationship between continuous glucose monitoring and the reduction of the risk and frequency of hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic episodes, as well as the reduction and/or maintenance of HbA1c and the prevention of glycemic deterioration in patients with DM2. Final considerations: The use of continuous glucose monitoring in patients with DM2 helps regulate blood glucose, minimizes the incidence of hyperglycemic and hypoglycemic episodes, and optimizes the patient's lifestyle, but does not seem to reduce the general discomfort caused by diabetes.
