Abstract
Objective: To assess the prevalence and impact of apathy in patients with Huntington's disease, considering the severity of symptoms, associated factors and implications for quality of life and daily functioning. Methods: Integrative review in the PubMed database using the search strategy (Apathy) AND ("Huntington Disease"[MeSH]), covering the period from 2018 to 2023. 65 articles were found, of which, 14 were considered relevant. Results: Huntington's disease (HD) manifests itself through motor and cognitive deficits and neuropsychiatric symptoms, with apathy being the most prevalent symptom and one of the last to emerge. As it is one of the last symptoms to appear, apathy can be related to the progression and staging of the disease. Final considerations: There is a scarcity of studies validating effective specific treatments for HD. However, given the importance of functionality in the quality of life and social integration of these patients, as well as in altering the course of the disease, appropriate treatment and management may improve the patient's prognosis.
