Abstract

Objective: Correlate the prevalence of Chikungunya with climatic factors in the different health regions of the state of Tocantins from 2016 to 2019. Methods: The cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive study analyzed the possible relationships between confirmed cases of Chikungunya and climatic factors in the different health regions of Tocantins from 2016 to 2019. The information was provided by the Health Surveillance Superintendency of the State Health Department of Tocantins and collected on the National Institute of Meteorology website. The data were organized into tables and graphs and subjected to statistical analysis. Results: 2017 was the year with the highest number of Chikunguinya cases. After applying the Spearman test, only one health region showed significance for the analyzed correlation. The highest incidences were in the rainy season for most Health regions. Conclusion: In the rainy season or up to two months afterwards, there are more confirmed cases than in other months. A significant correlation of 5% was found in the Bico do Papagaio health region. The study reveals that the disease incidence is related to climatic factors in Tocantins. The possible underreporting of cases may have limited the analysis that was sought to be established.
