Abstract

Objective: To identify which factors may contribute to the adherence of elderly patients to T2DM treatment. Methods: A bibliographic survey was carried out from 2018 to 2023, in the MEDLINE, LILACS and SciELO databases, in Portuguese, Spanish and English using the following descriptors “Diabetes Mellitus Type 2”; "Elderly"; “Adherence to treatment”. Systematic reviews were included in the study. To circumvent the bias of including adults and young people in the study, articles that did not differentiate between elderly people in this group were excluded from the review. Results: In the 3 searched databases, 29 articles were found, and of that amount, 16 articles were used for the elaboration of the discussion. The studies come from 12 countries, allowing a broad analysis of the problem. Final considerations: Measures that increase adherence to drug treatment and changes in lifestyle include educational measures, dialogue between doctor and patient and family support.
