Abstract

Objective: To identify the factors that influence the lack of adherence to treatment in patients with type 2 Diabetes mellitus. Methods: This is an integrative review of the literature in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature databases (LILACS) and MEDLINE via PubMed, indexed to the Virtual Health Library (VHL), carried out between September and October 2023. The descriptors “Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus” and “Treatment Adherence” were used. Results: The final sample consisted of 08 (eight) articles, which indicated that the main factors that influence the lack of adherence to DM2 treatment are related to socioeconomic level, age and gender. Other factors are the prevalence of emotional conditions, the lack of an integrated multidisciplinary team approach to health and the lack of strategies to promote self-care, especially men's health. Final considerations: Health education plays an important role in adherence to type 2 diabetes treatment, which takes into account the psychological and social aspects of patients, and which promotes, above all, changes in their lifestyle habits.
