Abstract

Objective: Understand the importance of health promotion articulated with social determinants in the care of people with diabetes, from the perspectives of professionals working in Primary Health Care. Methods: Qualitative study, of the research-action type, based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Paulo Freire. The Research Itinerary was followed, consisting of three phases: thematic investigation, codification and decoding; critical unveiling. A Culture Circle was held in September 2021, with the participation of 10 professionals working in a Basic Health Unit, in a capital in the south of Brazil. The data were analyzed by the participants during the Culture Circle. Results: In the dialogues, three main generating themes emerged: unveiling health promotion and the social determinants of health; perceptions about health education groups and dialogue; social determinants, health promotion and the biomedical model. Conclusion: Primary Care professionals recognize the importance of the relationship between health promotion and social determinants in the care of people diagnosed with diabetes, despite the fact that the curative model is still rooted. This relationship points to the importance of the work of community health agents, educational groups and dialogue, to promote health to individuals and collectivities.
