Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the approach of glycemic control in patients with heart failure and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This is an integrative review in the databases of Latin American and Caribbean Literature (LILACS) and PubMed, taking into consideration the scientific production from 2028 to 2023. The following descriptors were used: "heart failure; Type 2 diabetes mellitus; glycated hemoglobin; adults; heart disease". Results: The final sample consisted of 05 (five) articles, which indicated that strict glycemic control may be associated with worse cardiovascular outcomes. The range of glycated hemoglobin around 7% was associated with fewer unfavorable events. Sodium-glucose cotransporter inhibitors demonstrated efficacy in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure. Final considerations: Glycemic control has been shown to be an important parameter in reducing cardiovascular death and hospitalization. The choice of antidiabetic therapy is of great importance and should target cardioprotective effects for heart failure. However, there is still a scarcity of studies in this area and further research is needed for a better understanding of aspects that have not been clearly outlined.
