Abstract

Objective: To provide better guidance to perfusion professionals to prevent/reduce the need for blood transfusions during the use of CPB. Methods: This is a methodological research, which has a bibliographical review as the first step, which will result in the development of an instrument, aimed at perfusionists. The data search was carried out in the MEDLINE/PUBMED databases and VHL regional portal. Articles written in Portuguese, English and Spanish were included, with full texts available online and published in the last 5 years. Editorials and reflection articles were excluded. Results: The most used strategies for blood management during CPB are: reduced use of perfusate, autologous retrograde priming (PRA) and blood recovery through the autotransfusion system. Other strategies have been reported, such as the use of modified ultrafiltration, blood cardioplegia and an environment favorable to normothermia. Final considerations: In summary, blood management during CPB is necessary for better patient management in the intraoperative period. This research was limited by the lack of recent studies on the topic. Therefore, it is recommended that other studies be carried out in order to expand knowledge on the subject.
