Abstract
Objective: To evaluate self-perception and prevention practices regarding COVID-19 in a municipality in the state of Pará. Methods: This is a cross-sectional and prospective epidemiological study, with a sample of 120 people suspected of being infected with the aforementioned virus. Results: Of these, 64.17% presented a “detectable” diagnosis for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 and the remaining 35.83% presented a “non-detectable” result. Analytical biostatistics was used for tests with two independent samples: Chi-Square, Fisher's Exact and G. Conclusion: Regarding knowledge about COVID-19, two hypotheses of association with the laboratory result were accepted: self-perception of the current state health status and whether the participant was part of the risk group for COVID-19. Regarding self-perception and prevention practices regarding COVID-19, one of the most significant associations was found: participants with a “detectable” laboratory diagnosis shorten the time they wash their hands with soap and water. Also, lowering the mask “sometimes” in front of people contributes considerably to the increase in the proportion among those with a “detectable” result for SARS-CoV-2.
