Abstract

Objective: To identify in the literature nursing interventions for the prevention of Acute Kidney Injury in patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit based on risk factors. Methods: This is an integrative review carried out between January and March 2023 in the following databases: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Nursing Database, and Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, six articles made up the sample for this study. Results: The following risk factors for acute kidney injury were identified: prolonged hospitalization, infections, nephrotoxic drugs, invasive mechanical ventilation, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and age over 65. As for nursing interventions, the following stand out: daily water balance, laboratory tests, especially urea and creatinine, hemodynamic regulation, control of blood glucose, blood pressure, hydroelectrolytes, acid-base, respiratory monitoring, timely weaning from mechanical ventilation, adjustment of nephrotoxic drugs, and prevention of infections. Final considerations: it was possible to describe the scenario involving the risk factors for Acute Kidney Injury, with the aim of improving the clinical outlook and nursing conduct towards patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
