Abstract

Objective: To investigate the application of Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery as an intrinsic modality of Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery. Methods: Literature review conducted through searches in the SciELO and PubMed databases. A total of 791 articles were identified, of which 18 were selected after applying exclusion criteria, all published between 2017 and 2023. Results: Retrospective, observational, systematic studies, and meta-analyses were found with common viewpoints, as well as some divergent points. However, laparoscopic surgery consistently demonstrated a lower incidence of postoperative complications, such as pain, gastric and intestinal dysmotility, systemic infection, and incision site infection. Nevertheless, it remains a procedure that cannot be performed in all surgical cases, being more commonly indicated for elective procedures. Final considerations: Transluminal endoscopic surgery constitutes an efficient approach for the management of many types of patients. Notable are improved aesthetic and functional outcomes, as well as a reduction in morbidity and postoperative infections.
