Abstract

Objective: Critical analysis of advanced anastomosis techniques employed in gastrointestinal surgical procedures, including mechanical anastomoses and anastomoses using linear staplers, assessing their applicability and effectiveness in different surgical contexts. Methods: This integrative review was conducted following the PVO strategy. Searches were performed in the PubMed database with inclusion criteria covering English articles published from 2018 to 2023, resulting in 11 studies after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: It was observed that intracorporeal robotic colectomies led to superior postoperative recovery and lower complication rates compared to extracorporeal laparoscopic colectomies. In the group subjected to advanced anastomosis, 13.3% of patients experienced complications, whereas in the conventional anastomosis group, this rate was 15%. Furthermore, the use of linear staplers showed certain advantages over circular staplers. Final considerations: Advanced anastomosis techniques employed in gastrointestinal surgeries have both favorable and unfavorable characteristics. Linear staplers have been associated with post-surgery nutritional improvements and reduced blood loss.
