Abstract

Objective: Analyze the epidemiological data avaliable in the scientific literature between 2013 and 2023, aming to understand the possible increase in the prevalence os Autism  Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Literature review: Autism is a disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, difficulty communicating and repetitive behavior, presenting different needs and levels of support. By reading the selected articles, a line of reasoning was constructed, searching for data and understanding its etiology, symptoms and diagnosis. Given this, over the course of studies, numbers were found that confirm the increase in the prevalence of autism worldwide, however there are still doubts about the cause, the authors conflict between exposure to risk factors, limitations in research, lack of a diagnostic standard, among other reasons that may explain the growing clinical demand for autism. Final considerations: It can be considered that more studies are needed in the area, to understand which regions and populations have the highest prevalence and which variables lead to an increase in the diagnosis of ASD.
