Abstract
Objective: Identify preventive measures against COVID-19 adopted by women undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer and their impact on stress. Method: Descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study with 66 women undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Online dissemination, recruitment, and data collection were conducted. Two forms were used, one with sociodemographic data and COVID -19 prevention measures, and another with the Perceived Stress Scale-PPS. Data were processed using r project 4.03. Results: Participants, aged 20 to 59, 67.7% with higher education, 65.2% white, 62.1% married, 65.2% with children. Most had adequate knowledge of COVID -19, recognizing symptoms and prevention methods and 51.1% believed the pandemic interfered with chemotherapy. Stress levels varied, with higher levels in older women (p = 0.03), also influenced by skin color (p = 0.04). Conclusion: It is crucial to observe and invest in the mental health of cancer patients undergoing treatment, given the propensity for changes in perceived stress levels.
