Abstract
Objective: To identify the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in patients with HIV. Methods: This is an integrative review of the literature, which searched for clinical studies published in English, Portuguese or Spanish in the last 5 years in the Medline/PubMed, Scopus and LILACS databases using inclusion and exclusion criteria as well. information. Results: After a thorough study selection process, 23 clinical articles were included in the final sample. In total, there were 30,577 patients, of which 28,716 were people living with HIV (HIV+) and 1,861 people with a negative HIV test (HIV-). Several cardiovascular diseases (CVD) were observed, with emphasis on Systemic Arterial Hypertension. The association with sex, age, CD4 count, viral load and average time of HIV infection has been proven in most studies. All studies showed a higher prevalence of proven CVD when compared to the general population, with the exception of one study. Final considerations: Therefore, it is considered that CVDs are more prevalent in people living with HIV. Therefore, closer management of these conditions in these patients is necessary.
