Abstract
Objective: To elucidate the use of pictograms in health and the facilitation of communication with patients in the pharmaceutical field. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, using MeSH descriptors in the Medline/PubMed, LILACS and BVS databases, from 2014 to 2023. The selected articles were exported to Mendeley Desktop and the data grouped in Microsoft Excel. The data extracted from the articles was grouped in a table. The PRISMA-P model was used to present the stages of article selection. Results: 10 studies were selected for analysis. The studies emphasize the importance of using auxiliary strategies to improve health communication, such as the pictograms presented in the studies as being of great importance; however, adaptations are necessary. Final considerations: The use of pictograms acts as an aid to verbal communication in healthcare, and in the pharmaceutical field, it acts as an innovative tool to help in the process of pharmaceutical guidance and care. However, adaptations are necessary for the successful implementation of these visual tools in specific situations, making communication accessible.
