Abstract
Objective: To identify and analyze, through a literature review, the development of low-cost simulation mannequins for the central venous access technique. Methods: An integrative literature review based on a research protocol in the SciELO, LILACS and PubMed databases. The descriptors used were Simulation Training, Low-Cost Technology, Central Venous Catheters, Patient Simulation, High Fidelity Simulation Training. A total of 522 articles were identified and 6 articles were included after evaluation. Results: All authors describe the learning success of the new accessible mannequins developed within the respective target audiences of each study. These models ensure technical confidence, patient safety and cost reduction. Some models were described as useful, realistic and essential for training before performing the procedure on real patients. Final considerations: Despite the evident usefulness of low-cost simulation mannequins, there are few studies that describe the development and application of these models. Therefore, the present research reinforces the need for more robust research on the subject. In that way medical training through inclusive technological innovation can be guaranteed.
