Abstract
Objective: To understand the knowledge and practices of physiotherapists on palliative care in pediatrics. Methods: This is a descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach, carried out in reference pediatric hospitals in the private and state network from April to August 2023, with physiotherapists working in pediatric ICU and long-term care inpatient units. The instrument used for collection was a questionnaire divided into 4 stages, which were: description of professionals, YES and NO questionnaire, Bonn Palliative Care Knowledge Test - BPW questionnaire and speech by professionals. Results: The present study investigated 31 physiotherapists, most with training time between 5 and 10 years, 29 participants did not have a specific subject on palliative care during their undergraduate course and on the BPW questionnaire, many divergences were observed regarding the answers. In the qualitative journey, it was seen that physiotherapists still question about physiotherapeutic care at the time of palliation and many do not know how to deal with the reality of finitude. Conclusion: It is suggested that this subject be included in the physiotherapy course curricula, as well as more studies with this scientific content.
