Epidemiological and gestational profile of women treated at a university hospital in the public health network, Pelotas-RS

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the epidemiological and gestational profile of postpartum women treated at a university hospital in the public health network, Pelotas-RS. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out in a university hospital in Pelotas-RS, involving postpartum women, aged ≥ 18 years, in the postpartum period. The participants provided their consent through the Free and Informed Consent Form, and were interviewed from August to October 2023. The data obtained was analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 software and described in frequencies, mean and standard deviation. Results: The sample demonstrated a mean age of 27.25±5.51 years, with the majority of white skin color (81.3%), and education up to high school (50.0%), single (77.1 %). In addition, only 29.2% performed physical activity pre-pregnancy, and 34.1% had a normal pre-pregnancy BMI, with a prevalence of 63.6% with post-pregnancy obesity. Regarding prenatal consultations, 93.8% completed them, 54.2% had a previous pregnancy, and only 42.6% planned the pregnancy. Conclusion: The study demonstrated the importance and influence of gestational planning and care, especially in relation to prenatal care, for the benefit of maternal and fetal health.
