Abstract

Objectives: To analyze risky sexual behavior (RSB) among school adolescents in Piauí, characterizing prevalence and associated factors. Methods: Cross-sectional study using secondary data from the National School Health Survey, 2019 edition. Sociodemographic, behavioral, sexual health, and sociability variables were collected, including body image. RSB was defined as non-use of condoms in the last sexual encounter. Multiple logistic regression was employed, calculating adjusted odds ratios (AOR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI95%). Results: The prevalence of RSB was 41.0%. RSB was associated with male gender (AOR=1.27; CI95% 1.05;1.48), alcohol use (AOR=2.24; CI95% 2.13;2.54), smoking (AOR=1.70; CI95% 1.56;1.97), illicit drug use (AOR=1.45; CI95% 1.18;1.86), body satisfaction (AOR=1.47; CI95% 1.08;1.65), non-use of condoms in the first sexual encounter (AOR=11.45; CI95% 8.97;16.4), and self-perception of being overweight (AOR=0.75; CI95% 0.57;0.96). Conclusions: The prevalence of RSB was high, and it was associated with demographic, behavioral, and sexual health factors in adolescents. The data highlight the need for multifactorial health promotion interventions targeting adolescents to prevent risky behaviors among youth.
