Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with eosinophilic esophagitis. Literature review: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic allergic disease with a multifactorial etiology, mediated by Th2 cytokines. Patients present with various symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, vomiting, food impaction, and dysphagia, which are common to other diseases. In addition to clinical manifestations, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with biopsy is important for diagnosis. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent potential complications of the disease. The treatment of EoE has been progressing, with pharmacological therapy, dietary therapy, and endoscopic dilation therapy being the currently available therapies on the market. Final considerations: Eosinophilic esophagitis is a complex disease easily confused with other pathologies with similar clinical presentations, which can lead to delays in diagnosis. Therefore, it is important to have adequate knowledge of this condition to initiate treatment early, reducing the chances of disease progression, resulting in fewer symptoms, and improved quality of life.
