Abstract
Objective: To characterize the functional profile, risk of falls and nutritional risk in patients who have suffered trauma in the first 24 hours admitted to an emergency room. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional research had the following inclusion criteria: A period of up to 24 hours from emergency room admission, trauma victims aged ≥18 years and preserved cognitive capacity, exclusion criteria: pregnant women, mechanically ventilated patients, lowered level of consciousness (Glasgow ≤12) and clinical causes of hospitalization, collection was from August 2022 to June 2023, through the application of evaluation instruments. Results: The study had 39 participants, with two exclusions, leaving n= 37. The incidence of admission was due to falls (32.43%). There was a prevalence of fractures in the lower limbs (40.54%). ATLS was applied to (48.72%) of the sample, 51.35% reported having comorbidity, and SAH (13.81%) was more frequent. They had no nutritional needs (83.78%), the BMI was 25.79, the age group was 43.93 ± 16.77 years, and on the ECG, the average was 15.61, men made up 67.7% of the population. sample and there was no report of the use of DVA or sedation. Conclusion: This study showed that patients admitted to the emergency room in the first 24 hours have a significant reduction in functionality, in addition to a high risk of falls. Although these patients do not present immediate nutritional risk, they are not exempt from developing nutritional complications during the hospitalization period, which highlights the importance of continuous monitoring and appropriate interventions.
