Abstract
Objective: To identify effective nursing interventions to manage fatigue in patients with heart failure. Methods: This is a systematic review conducted in March 2023, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Searches were conducted in the public Medline, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, and Cochrane Library databases. Results: Two independent reviewers methodologically assessed selected studies. A total of 525 studies were identified. After analysis and application of eligibility criteria, 493 articles were excluded. After methodological quality assessment, 18 articles remained for qualitative synthesis. The most effective interventions were exercise and education. Both aerobic and resistance exercise showed improvements in functional capacity and reductions in fatigue. Educational interventions focused on improving understanding of heart failure, promoting self-care, and improving adherence. Conclusions: The study provides evidence to guide effective nursing practice in the management of fatigue in patients with heart failure and emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to improve quality of life and clinical outcomes.
